Lebanon’s state media reported on Wednesday that at least six people were killed in Israeli attacks on a city and a Palestinian refugee camp in the Sidon region of southern Lebanon. Besides, three more people were reported dead in an Israeli attack in another city. Several people were reportedly injured in both attacks. News agency AFP.
Israel has intensified its military operations against the Tehran-backed armed group Hezbollah. On March 2, Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on Israel, causing Lebanon to become involved in the regional conflict.
The conflict began after a joint US-Israel attack on Iran, which escalated tensions across the region.
Quoting Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, the country’s official news agency NNA said, ‘, four people were killed in the Israeli enemy attack in the city of ’ Adlun.
Besides, two others were killed and four others injured in another attack on an apartment in the Mih Mih refugee camp.
At least three people were killed and 18 others injured in an Israeli attack on the city of Habbush, another area in southern Lebanon, NNA reported earlier.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army. But earlier they had warned of impending attacks in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The area is known as a stronghold of Hezbollah, and has been targeted by Israel several times in the ongoing war.
Israeli military spokesman Avichai Adrai said in a statement posted online that Israeli forces are increasingly targeting Hezbollah’s ‘military infrastructure ’ across the suburbs of Beirut.
Addressing the residents, Adrai said, ‘for your safety, you have to leave the area immediately.’
Israel, which has occupied southern Lebanon for nearly two decades until 2000, said its military would take control of the border area to the Litani River, about 30 kilometers (20 mi) from the border.
According to Lebanese authorities, at least 1,072 people have been killed and more than 1 million displaced in Lebanon in the Israeli operation.
Israeli authorities said residents rushed to shelters after repeated air strike warnings sounded in northern Israel. A woman was killed on Tuesday after a rocket attack from Lebanon.
